208 - Recap

The last articles were all about taking care of yourself, how to communicate, when to reach out and when to get out.

You’ll get your best experiences out of hypnosis by being proactive in both your communication and safety. Talk about the things you’d like during your pre-talk, rather than resorting to do’s and don’ts. Hypnotists are used to having to drive consent conversations and are rarely afforded the kindness of having a subject check in on their boundaries and desires. If you work together regularly, get to know each-other as a whole, making it easier to define your relationship on the spectrum of playmate to subject to master / boyfriend / girlfriend / owner / whatever.

Be vigilant if something feels ‘off’ in your relationship. Even though you may find them erotic, the brainwashing and mind control tropes are never without risk. If you decide to engage with these behaviors and practices, you’ll need to be more vigilant and proactive in managing harm and reducing risk.

Play Safe!

  • Don’t make plans with dick in hand. That ‘edgy’ charming hypnotist with the PFP that looks like it was straight out of 2005 deviantART might be fun - but is joining their hive/cult/harem a good idea?
  • Develop agency. I spoke about this earlier. This isn’t just about skipping suggestions you find unpalatable, it’s about establishing boundaries and not getting fucked with.
  • Stick with a community. It’s not perfect, but working with a hypnotist that people can vouch for is just a good idea. You can also ask around and be like, “hey is this shit normal?”
  • Insist on an audio-only recording. Alternatively, have a friend sit-in on the session. This almost never comes up, but it should be an option.
  • Touch grass. One of the best ways to stay safe is to stay in touch with your friends, your hypnosis community, and make sure that your emotional needs can be satisfied without your hypnotist.
