210.11 - Easy Suggestions

Aha I tricked you! I’ve created some homework for you. These are suggestions for you to experiment with creating. If you have problems figuring out how to do any of these, send me a message and I’ll write about how to do it in more detail.

Hypnosis Without Trance

So - earlier I talked about Comparisons and Reinforcements, Sets, Pacing and Leading, Direct vs Indirect, Utilization, and Imagery with Intention. You can use all these things without trance… So, let’s give this a go!

Permissive Arm Utilization

Here’s a spin on your usual ‘hypnotizability test.’ What you’ll do is…

  • Ask your subject to close their eyes and extend their arm at shoulder height.
  • Just ask them to notice how their arm feels.
  • Ask them to notice what direction it might want to move. Maybe it’s heavy, or light, or wants to move to one side or the other. Provide a few imagery suggestions for any option.
    • If you see something start to happen, utilize it with a “that’s right,” providing suggestions for it.
    • If you don’t see anything, focus on what they felt. Ask them what they were thinking about. If they didn’t imagine anything, ask them what would work for them as a suggestion, and what they want to do. 😈 (Or, more forwardly, if they don’t want to follow your instructions or try this out, why are they wasting your time?) If they have some type of aphantasia, tell them they’ll need to team up with you - ask them to describe something the way they think of it in their head so you can intensify it with them.

Motor Challenge - Arm Catalepsy

This one’s pretty easy - and is more interactive. It’s a great way to learn how to do Hypnosis Without Trance

  • Start with your subject seated, or with their arm resting on a table. Make sure their arm can relax.
  • Ask them to look at a spot on the back of their hand, focus on it, and when they have that ask them to close their eyes, and imagine seeing/feeling/being aware of that spot.
  • Suggest that you’d like them to imagine what it would be like if their arm was becoming heavier. Provide a few suggestions - being weight down by a blanket, being made of lead, just being tired, or the arm merging into the table, or magnets however those work. If they’re kinky try latex goo, a glue that starts to stick it down more and more to the table, your usual garden variety bondage straps, they’re a pooltoy and you just let the air out, they’re a Protogen and you just turned the power off to their arm. (God I fucking crush on toasters too much.)
  • Do a comparison. Ask them not to try to move their arm yet. Ask them how it feels compared to their other arm, or ask them how it feels compared to a few moments ago, before they started imagining anything. Remind them that you’re collaborating.
    • If it’s “just the same” make sure they’re imagining something, or coach them through making their arm heavy. They might just not be up for this, you can’t make it happen, and that’s ok. They have to want it the same way you have to want to follow a meditation tape - shit isn’t going to happen if you don’t follow the instructions and engage with the material. Don’t move on until you’ve got something to work with here.
  • Assuming they mention something - use it! If they mentioned “sticky” repeat it exactly… Like a question…
    • “Sticky?”
    • “Yeah… sticky… like it won’t move…”
    • “Interesting - it’s sticky, like it won’t move. What are you thinking of that’s making it so sticky?”
  • Start to utilize this. You’ve got a few options.
    • Jump into the imagery. If it’s sticky and they mentioned honey, ask them to think of what it would be like if the honey became thicker and heavier. If they suggested their arm turning into lead, suggest it becoming stiffer and heavier, and the image more vibrant.
    • Ask them where the most sticky/heavy/frozen part of their arm is. Ask them what it feels like. Suggest that feeling moving, growing, or they’re just becoming more aware of it.
    • Do more comparisons, and loop through intensifying it.
  • When they’re REALLY focused on this, or they let out a chuckle with “It’s stuck” it’s time to up the ante.
    • First - start easy. Tell them in a moment you’re going to ask them to try and move their arm - and it might move a tiny bit, but they’re going to notice just how hard it is to move.
    • When you see them start this, suggest the more they try to move, the harder it gets to move.
    • Once it’s really stuck, you’re done! Good job. You’ve built up a lot of expectation. You can either release their arm now or do something like “when I snap my fingers, your arm will be released, but you’ll find that now it’s your other arm that starts to stick down.”

Hypnotic

So - most folks start in hypnosis by learning how to do inductions. While it’s a bit scarier and you’ll end up with egg on your face more quickly, you’ll learn what your subject is really doing to create these suggestions much faster. That’s why the ‘hypnotic’ section is later. These are suggestions I’d recommend you build ‘in trance’ after an induction.

🌈 Hot Tub 🌈

two bros! chilling in the hot tub, five feet apart cause they’re not gay 🎶

This one’s fun and easy!

  • Do your induction
  • Optionally do your deepener
  • Suggest a hot tub
    • VAK cycle
    • Suggest emotion
    • Utilize what you notice - like their muscles relaxing if you see them melt, or if you see them shift suggest they’re getting comfortable in the tub, if they pant suggest the warmth and heat of the hot tub.

Pulling Out Thoughts

You don’t necessarily ‘need’ trance for this one - but a little extra expectation for this doesn’t hurt. I think Ashton Vuh’uni was the first one to show this one to me.

  • Do your induction and deepener schtick
  • Ask them to focus all their thoughts into a little ball/object, whatever.
  • If they seem like they can talk, ask them what they’re imagining.
  • Build more and more expectation - suggest thoughts focusing, suggest tension, suggest stronger and stronger thoughts, racing thoughts, stronger imagery…
  • Building up more and more until you tell them in a moment, you’ll snap your fingers / say something and their mind will just be blank, plucking that ball of thoughts out of them.
  • Alternatively, if you’re in VR, you can literally reach into their forehead and “pull it out.”

Post-Hypnotic Suggestions

All right - here’s where things get interesting. We’re going to give our trancee some suggestions to follow after they’re out of trance.

Catalepsy

Mostly riffing on an idea from Mind Play here. This is waaaay more fun than it has any right to be. It’s also surprisingly effective and easy.

  • First, do your induction and deepener.
  • Test full body catalepsy first, make sure you ask them to try to break out of it, and find that they can’t. If this suggestion won’t work in isolation, it definitely won’t work after trance.
  • Tell them “in a moment… I’ll do X”
    • You’ll bring them back out of trance.
    • They’ll be able to move their head, look around, and speak freely.
    • They’ll find that they just won’t be able to move their body when they try, having it locked in place.
    • They’ll automatically start to drop back in trance after 30 seconds.
    • Recap the instructions.
  • Do your X - figuratively, not literally… unless they’re available for you to use for this suggestion then by all means~
  • Tease as necessary.
  • As casually as you like, tell them their time is about up after watching the clock. Watch the fun.

Funny Pen

Also fun and easy!

  • Induction, deepener, blablabla…
  • Tell them to, still in trance, let their eyes open.
  • Show them an object. Tell them to remember this object.
  • Tell them to let their eyes close down.
  • In a moment…
    • I’ll bring you back out of trance.
    • When you do, you’ll be completely out…
    • But, that object I just showed you is the funniest damn thing you’ve ever seen.
    • Fuck fail compilations or this week’s memes, that pen is so funny you’ll find yourself laughing more and more.
    • The more you see it, the more you’ll laugh.
  • Hide the object somewhere.
  • Bring them back, start a very short conversation.
  • Then, bring the object out. Watch them stare at the object.
    • As casually as possible, point at the object. “You remember this… I’m sure.”
    • Ham up how hilarious it is as they start to crack.
    • Utilize the laughter.

Shit That Didn’t Work

No problem! Talk to your subject. It’s an experiment, and you’re there to have fun with them. See what you two can improve, and savor your successes.
